Maybe This Inspired That :: Monday Blues Confusion by Peggy Reimchen

The Art // Monday Blues Confusion by Peggy Reimchen is instantly mesmerizing and beautifully abstract with the strong blue hue and bright reflection. The lines are sharp yet skewed by the water and capture the viewer’s attention to lead them through the photograph. I love that this piece is hard to tell what exactly it is until you look closely.

The Inspired // This beautiful Day Tripper Scarf has a brilliantly cool pattern which instantly reminded me of the lines in Peggy Reimchen‘s photo.

I am currently taking submissions for this column! If you think you have a “Maybe This Inspired That” match, email me links to “the art” and “the inspired” along with descriptions. Please note that not all submissions will be published.

Brand Script Font [Friday Favorites]

I love a good, bold script, don’t you?! Jam jars; Warhol’s “Tomato Soup”; chalk lettering and baseball. Those were the triggers to make this soft chancery cursive turned into a script font. Brand by Maximiliano Sproviero is thought mainly for packaging but can be used in magazines and invitations also. Pro styles are loaded with the most complete sets of alternates, ligatures and ornaments; while Std styles are smaller versions of the font, with no decorative alternates. This awesome font is super affordable and is an extra 10% off right now! And as always there are a bunch of other great fonts on sale right now at MyFonts.

Design Portfolio: Amelie G Magazine

Amelie G Magazine got its start in 2009 as an online fashion magazine and printed its first issue in the fall of 2010. If you’ve been around for a while, you may remember me attending the launch party. I posted this project to my portfolio, but I realized I never wrote about it here on the blog. Amelie G is a quarterly style magazine based in New Orleans featuring emerging artists and designers, and distributed throughout the United States.  It covers international fashion, art and design from the Gulf Coast perspective and is the only full-gloss style magazine in New Orleans. I worked side by side with the Amelie G team from 2010 through 2012 to design and produce their first five issues.

Mikado Font [Friday Favorites]

Happy Friday! I have a new favorite font for you guys! Looking at this font just makes me happy. It makes me feel like a fun summer is approaching and I just want to go eat snoballs, ride a ferris wheel and lay out on the beach!

Mikado is a friendly, casual type family designed by Hannes von Döhren. It is intended to be used everywhere where a pleasant feeling should be conveyed. It has the openness and regularity needed for agreeable reading, and a lively and informal appearance that makes it shine in large headlines, slogans and logos. Mikado has a positive, kind of “out-of-the-box-appearance” in big sizes, but because of its straight architecture the fonts are also very legible in smaller sizes and longer texts – in print or on screen.

Mikado is equipped for complex, professional typography with alternate letters, ligatures, arrows, fractions and an extended character set to support Central and Eastern European as well as Western European Languages. Love Potion and Brandon Grotesqu, two of Hannes von Döhren‘s other fonts have shown up on this blog before as favorites!

Maybe This Inspired That // Galena by Erik Jones

MTIT // Galena by theirison

The Art // This painting titled Galena by Erik Jones stopped me dead in my internet browsing tracks. She looks like she’s wearing some futuristic head-dress. The splashes of lines and colors create an exotic mane, but her features and expression is so calm and elegant.

The Inspired // This ceramic vessel by Elke Sada is a piece of art on it’s own. It looks as if a painting has been cut up and molded into a bowl.
