A Manhattan Crawfish Boil

June 9, 2011 by Ciera Holzenthal

Last weekend I met up with my best friend, Megan, in Manhattan to attend the LSU Annual Crawfish boil. It was in New York, but it was definitely stocked with Louisiana goodness! Crawfish, jambalaya, Abita beer and a bunch of LSU alumni! It was at The Boat Basin Café on The Hudson River which is centered below a hollow traffic rotary. It was perfect weather and an amazing taste of home.

Boston Photo Tour – Part 2 [Beacon Hill]

June 8, 2011 by Ciera Holzenthal

My Boston Photo Tour brings us to the charming neighborhood of Beacon Hill. It is a 19th-century residential neighborhood of Federal-style row houses known for its beautiful doors, brass door knockers, decorative iron work, window boxes, hidden gardens, gas-lit streets and brick sidewalks. In 1962 Beacon Hill was designated a National Historic Landmark which means the architecture is protected by restrictive regulations that does not allow changes to any visible part of a structure without the approval of an architectural commission. The narrow streets of this whimsical neighborhood are so much fun to explore!

Boston Photo Tour – Part 1 [Copley Square]

May 20, 2011 by Ciera Holzenthal

My parents were here in Boston to visit me last week! We had a blast and got so much “touristy” stuff done in a week. The weather was cold and rainy most days, but we still had a great time. We stopped by Copley Square one day to meet Z during his lunch break.

A Passion for Pizza

April 12, 2011 by Ciera Holzenthal

We got a new pizza stone that fits perfectly into our mini oven. The pizza came out great, as always when Z cooks, and I had a blast documenting the process!

April Showers Bring… [Friday Flickr Favorites]

April 1, 2011 by Ciera Holzenthal

It is more like snow than showers here in Boston, but I’m looking forward to the Spring weather if it ever makes it up here. I am sharing some lovely rain inspired photos today. On the sunny side, check out the Amelie G Magazine April Web Issue which came out today for some amazing Spring fashion and photos!

Walden Pond and Longfellow’s Wayside Inn

March 31, 2011 by Ciera Holzenthal

We started the day with a short drive to Walden Pond in Concord which is a 102-foot deep glacial kettle-hole pond where Henry David Thoreau lived in the 1840’s. We wanted to hike the trail that rings the pond, but it was still covered in snow so we headed to the Concord town center and then towards Sudbury for lunch.

We pulled up to Longfellow’s Wayside Inn just in time to see five minutemen firing their muskets. We ate lunch in The Old Kitchen which was Henry Ford’s favorite room for entertaining guest while he owned the Inn. It was dark and cozy with the glow of a large fireplace. It is the oldest operating Inn in the country, offering comfort and hospitality to travelers along the Boston Post Road since 1716.

After lunch we made our way to the very cute town of Lexington to walk down the main road and check out the battle green before our ride home to Boston.

It was a great day! I plan to go back to Walden Pond once all of the snow melts.

Photos from my Golden Half

March 23, 2011 by Ciera Holzenthal

I posted two images last week and wanted to share some of my other favorite prints from my Golden Half camera! As you can tell, some are from New Orleans and some from Boston. I’m not sure why a few of them are split in threes, but I think those are my favorite! Which is your favorite?

Fulling Mill Brook Preserve

March 15, 2011 by Ciera Holzenthal

A few weeks ago, Z and I took a little weekend road trip to Martha’s Vineyard to visit with some friends. It was still too chilly to head to the beach, so we decided to visit the Fulling Mill Brook Preserve. We took a short hike down the path and stopped at a few streams and waterfalls along the way to snap some shots. The first two photos I took with my Golden Half camera. The others are from Eric Soikkeli, who came on the hike with us!

Red Balloons [Friday Flickr Favorites]

January 14, 2011 by Ciera Holzenthal

My sister is having a 99 Red Balloons themed party for her 26th birthday tomorrow. Since I will not be able to attend the party, today’s Flickr Friday is inspired by red balloons. Enjoy and happy Friday!

My New Hood [Friday Flickr Favorites]

January 7, 2011 by Ciera Holzenthal

Now that I am starting to settle into my new apartment I am trying to get back into my weekly blog posts. My new neighborhood is Boston > Roxbury Crossing > Mission Hill/Brigham Circle > Tremont Street. A little confusing and I am not really sure how it breaks down, but it is a great area! Here are some of my favorite photos of my new hood from Flickr! I will take some photos of my own to share soon!

For photo credits and more of my favorites visit my Tremont Street gallery on Flickr.

Found a roll of film…

December 15, 2010 by Ciera Holzenthal

I found a roll of undeveloped film and had NO idea what was on it. It made me miss the days before digital cameras and the excitement of waiting for your film to get developed after you finished a roll. Turns out it is some photos from years ago at Jazz Fest.

Beautiful Bookshelves [Friday Flickr Favorites]

December 10, 2010 by Ciera Holzenthal

Golden Half Camera [Much Love Monday]

November 29, 2010 by Ciera Holzenthal

I ♥ my Golden Half Camera. Just look at how cute it is! I am using the camera for the first time and will post some images as soon as I get them developed… yes… it is actually a film camera!

So the cool thing about this camera, besides how it looks, is that it allows for two shots on one frame. You get a cool diptych photograph with the two frames divided by a black line. This 35mm half-frame camera allows a standard 3″ x 5″ photo to be split into half (3″ x 2.5″ frames), letting you snap double the amount of photos. Anyone else have a Golden Half Camera with images to share? Subscribe to the Ciera Design RSS feed or follow me on twitter so you don’t miss out when I post the photos!

Update: You can view all of my Golden Half photos here.

Fall Inspired [Friday Flickr Favorites]

October 22, 2010 by Ciera Holzenthal

These photos make me want to live somewhere that you actually see the seasons change. You do not get the beautiful Fall colors in New Orleans. All of these fall inspired photographs are by Zander White. I absolutely love the last photo of the leaf. The images link through to Zander’s Flickr page – so please click through to see more of his work and check out Zander’s Fall Harvest blog.

I came across this nice photo of my house…

October 15, 2010 by Ciera Holzenthal

I found this nice photo of my house on Flickr the other day. It was taken by Alysha Jordan (New Orleans Lady) who has some other great photos of Oak Street and New Orleans in her Flickr Photostream.
