Huge news today friends! Zander and I have decided it’s time to move back to New Orleans! I’ve had an amazing year and a half living in Boston. I’ve made some amazing friends and explored more of the North East than I ever imagined I would! But our hearts are in New Orleans.

Everyone in New Orleans has a special connection and shows it through eye contact when passing on the street. I miss that. I miss the warm, friendly and happy people. I miss hard rains, hidden courtyards, wonderful food, Oak trees, great music, the unique gumbo of people, southern hospitality and dive bars.

“If there was ever a town to have a reason to be full of sorrow and pain it is New Orleans. And although the damages of Katrina, poverty and crime are all around, it does not stop people from living to the fullest. Every day is a new day and more reason to celebrate.” -The Hungry Nomad

It’s hard to explain, but New Orleans just has something special. It is not fast or efficient. It’s slow, sweaty and lazy, but it’s home. Every inch of this city has something beautiful in it’s own special way. I’ll miss the North East tremendously, but I’m ready to be back in the city that stole my heart!

Foburg is a 3-day alternative music festival on March 11-13, 2011 in venues on Frenchmen Street and the surrounding neighborhood. It’s all about bringing together great local bands and touring bands to create one of the most memorable weekends in the local rock scene.

Foburg features rock, indie rock, and alternative artists from the greater Gulf South and national touring artists on their way to SXSW in Austin TX. Foburg also helps the historic Frenchmen Street by drawing fans of a less “traditional” genres of music to its venues.

Foburg 2010 featured 10 venues, 100 bands, and crowds approaching 10,000 people. Foburg 2011 aims to be twice as big, with 20 venues and 200 bands.

I designed two posters for 2010 shows and I was honored when Simple Play asked me to design a poster for one of the 2011 shows! The Jean Eric poster that I designed is below along with their new music video… which is awesome!

I saw Built To Spill at The Howlin’ Wolf last night. The show was amazing! The Howlin’ Wolf is a great venue to see a show. I was able to get up close to the stage without being uncomfortably crammed.

Going to live shows is one of my favorite things to do. I love watching the band play as well as watching the crowd react. I enjoy seeing people in the moment – people enjoying the music and when that one person who was still all night raises their fist to the song that really moves them.

Here are the lyrics to my favorite Built To Spill song, Car:

Doug Martsch who is lead singer, guitarist, and the main creative behind the band is so engaging. His lyrics are clever and it seems he has so much to say.

“Saying something,” of course, is always a loaded concept with regard to Doug Martsch: He has spent years telling every interviewer who asks that his lyrics contain no personal meaning, that they are chosen more for their meter and suggestiveness than anything else. Ironically, he often seems to be pondering the impossibility of clear communication: “This strange sound you said I said/ You’re not listening or I’m not saying it right,” he fretted on “Strange”. “If there’s a word for you, it doesn’t mean anything,” he insisted on Perfect From Now On’s “Velvet Waltz”. Foburg is a brand new 3-day alternative music festival held in 8 or more venues on and around Frenchmen Street on March 12-14, 2010. Foburg will feature rock, indie rock, and alternative artists from the greater Gulf South and national touring artists on their way to SXSW in Austin, TX, which is the following week.
