A White Thanksgiving

If you follow me on Instagram you already know that I went to Maine again this Thanksgiving. It was a White Thanksgiving in more ways than one. It was Zander’s family, The White’s and it was super snowy! (I’m just realizing this, but next Thanksgiving I’ll officially be a White too since we are getting married in October, whoa!) The snow was actually so heavy that it caused the power to go out for two days while we were there! Luckily the house it set up with a generator because I guess it happens a lot. Although we had some power from that, we had to be careful and couldn’t run too many things at one time. We attempted to cook a few things in a makeshift oven over the fire but luckily the normal oven didn’t fail us, we somehow managed a perfect Thanksgiving dinner, even on generator power. We did turn it off at night and curled up to sleep by the fire to stay warm! Of course we had to take advantage of the snow as it was falling, then came right back in the stay warm!

Thanksgiving Recap

For Thanksgiving Zander and I went up to Maine to his grandmother’s house. It was as beautiful as it always is! We had two friends come up from New York and we had a great time building fires to keep warm and eating way too much food! Zander’s grandmother got this new John Deer so everyone had some fun riding all over her property! Don’t worry, I had a turn too!

Maine House

The day after Thanksgiving the boys built a fire pit but we were all too wimpy to stay out in the cold for too long, haha!

Maine Fire Pit

They have an amazing fish house down by the water that we hung out in one night drinking mulled wine and hot cider, it was SO cold, the fire was barely warming the place up!

Fishhouse Session Pops

And as if Thanksgiving didn’t get us fat enough we decided to have a huge New England style feast a few days later! Homemade chowder, lobster rolls and salad, SO good!

Downeast Feast

Since we were flying out of Boston we decide to leave Maine early that morning to have a few hours in the city. We went to our favorite pizza spot and then watched the Patriots game before heading to the airport.

Gull Rock Pottery Sculpture Garden

On my Maine road trip back in June, we received a tip to check out Gull Rock Pottery. It was well off the beaten path and totally out of our way but I’m so glad we took the trek. It’s a remote in-home pottery studio surrounded by an amazing sculpture garden on the water’s edge. It was really cool to wander through the property and in and out of the juts of land that held the sculptures.

Jasper Beach – Billions of Stones

Jasper Beach was quite a site. Billions of stones rubbed smooth by the sea and piled high the entire length of the beach. Toward the top, the stones are large but by the time you reach the waters edge they are the size of fine gravel. Walking down the dune of stones is a beautiful site but the real beauty comes out when the stones are wet with seawater, which brings out their vibrancy.

We spent some time admiring the stones smoothness, marveling at their designs, building rock towers and laying down on the warm stones. You could spend weeks examining them because every stone is different and beautiful.
