Gull Rock Pottery Sculpture Garden

On my Maine road trip back in June, we received a tip to check out Gull Rock Pottery. It was well off the beaten path and totally out of our way but I’m so glad we took the trek. It’s a remote in-home pottery studio surrounded by an amazing sculpture garden on the water’s edge. It was really cool to wander through the property and in and out of the juts of land that held the sculptures.

Jasper Beach – Billions of Stones

Jasper Beach was quite a site. Billions of stones rubbed smooth by the sea and piled high the entire length of the beach. Toward the top, the stones are large but by the time you reach the waters edge they are the size of fine gravel. Walking down the dune of stones is a beautiful site but the real beauty comes out when the stones are wet with seawater, which brings out their vibrancy.

We spent some time admiring the stones smoothness, marveling at their designs, building rock towers and laying down on the warm stones. You could spend weeks examining them because every stone is different and beautiful.

Penobscot Bay Driftwood

When we arrived to Lincolnville it was a little too early for dinner, but all of the little shops around were already closed so we decided to walk along the water. While we were walking we found this amazing piece of driftwood and decided to stop and explore it further. The sun was at the perfect spot in the sky and the colors and textures on the wood were so beautiful.

These rocks look pretty harmless in the photos but they were incredibly tough to walk on (especially with my inappropriate shoe choice for the day).

Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse

You can barely see this lighthouse from the shore. It is at the end of a 7/8-mile-long breakwater so it took a while to get out there. The path was made of huge rocks, not the easiest surface to walk on and the intense wind didn’t help much either! We started the walk and almost decided not to go all the way, but it was just one of those things… we had to do it while we were there! My favorite part was the white wall covered in rust, such great colors and texture.

Maine: The Way Life Should Be

I’m back to Boston. I had a lovely long weekend in Maine. We explored Fort Popham, drank yummy hard cider, grilled up some hamburgers and hot dogs, ate A LOT, spent nights under the stars in our tent and just relaxed in the beautiful weather! How was your long weekend?

Maine antiquing and a coffee table

After living in Boston for almost a year we finally ditched the cardboard box for a real coffee table, yay! Zander and I went to a few antique shops while in Maine during our Thanksgiving up there and picked out a table. We plan on refinishing it, but if that takes as long as just purchasing it did, that may take a while. I’ll be sure to post a before and after of that but in the meantime, here are some photos of other items that I found interesting while we were out looking.
