September Desktop Calendar Wallpaper

I am officially a New Orleans resident again! Our trip home was pretty insane since we were scheduled to arrive home right after hurricane Isaac passed. We ended up driving through some bad weather in Mississippi and when we got to New Orleans most of the city was covered in downed trees and had no power. We stopped in Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia on the way and took some videos and photos that I’ll be sharing soon! I’m back to blogging and taking on Freelance work since I’m one of the lucky ones with power restored! Zander and I have a September desktop wallpaper for y’all, hope you enjoy!

Frontage Font [Friday Favorites]

Happy Friday, I have a special font to share with y’all today! I just adore fonts that have layering options! Frontage is a charming layered type system by Juri Zaechwith with endless design possibilities using different combinations of fonts and colors. Achieve a realistic 3D effect by adding the shadow font or just use the capital letters of the regular and bold cut for stark artwork.

Frontage Font Type Specimens and Design

The typeface’s design is based on a simple grid which creates the friendly, handcrafted look of facade signs. It is generously spaced for maximum impact of your message. As a display typeface, Frontage loves color and is suitable for headlines and logotypes. Details include 224 characters in six styles and manually edited kerning.

You can download Frontage Outline for free by just paying with a tweet or Facebook post by clicking the image above!

Heading Home

Huge news today friends! Zander and I have decided it’s time to move back to New Orleans! I’ve had an amazing year and a half living in Boston. I’ve made some amazing friends and explored more of the North East than I ever imagined I would! But our hearts are in New Orleans.

New Orleans Chris Rose Quote

Everyone in New Orleans has a special connection and shows it through eye contact when passing on the street. I miss that. I miss the warm, friendly and happy people. I miss hard rains, hidden courtyards, wonderful food, Oak trees, great music, the unique gumbo of people, southern hospitality and dive bars.

“If there was ever a town to have a reason to be full of sorrow and pain it is New Orleans. And although the damages of Katrina, poverty and crime are all around, it does not stop people from living to the fullest. Every day is a new day and more reason to celebrate.” -The Hungry Nomad

Proud To Call It Home New Orleans We Live In The Moment

It’s hard to explain, but New Orleans just has something special. It is not fast or efficient. It’s slow, sweaty and lazy, but it’s home. Every inch of this city has something beautiful in it’s own special way. I’ll miss the North East tremendously, but I’m ready to be back in the city that stole my heart!

Brand Spotlight: Brooklyn Taco

Just loving this brand identity for Brooklyn Taco Co. by Tag Collective. How about you?

The identity started with a wordmark that speaks to their craft and references hand painted signage seen throughout Brooklyn, this is paired with a Mexican inspired color palette and patterns.

From the groundwork created by the graphic identity, the space took shape incorporating a strong graphic pattern, color palette and typography provided by the brand toolkit.

Julieta: A Swashy Type of Love [Friday Favorites]

A new favorite font for you guys today! Julieta is a condensed, unicase typeface full of swashy love!

Inspired by romanticism, Julieta is a charming and versatile typeface. By alternating uppercase and lowercase, and mixing them with alternate characters, ligatures, swashes and endings, you obtain endless possibilities of composition, with 810 glyphs available in the Pro font.

My Desk Illustrated

While I’m sorting through and editing hundreds of photos from my Maine road trip I thought I would share this with you guys. My desk was illustrated by the very talented Ned Harrison for the Spring Issue of the Graphic Artists Guild newsletter! When I received the proof I couldn’t stop smiling ear to ear, I was giddy and speechless and couldn’t believe what a wonderful job Ned did!

Graphic Artists Guild Members Desk 1

Welcome to my workspace, a desk in the attic. For me, a cluttered space equals a cluttered mind. So I try to keep my workspace a neat and inspirational place to be. Everyday it starts out neat but ends in a mess. Before heading downstairs for the night, I straighten it up to have a fresh space for the morning!

Monroe Font [Friday Favorites]

I have a new favorite font! Monroe by Daniel Hernandez is a contemporary, lightweight slab serif, equally at home making a splash on the pages of websites as it is in printed publications like magazines and catalogs.

It offers a broad scale of typographic possibilities thanks to its plethora of alternate lettershapes, ligatures and swashed upper- and lowercase variants.

Monroe’s generous horizontal width makes makes it an excellent selection for headlines, music packaging, brochures, posters, logos and more.

With a little OpenType magic — its flamboyant flourishes and swashes set it apart from its contemporaries in the modern slab genre.
